Founder's Welcome

Welcome to Helix4HE.

I founded Helix4HE on a conviction that has only grown stronger across more than thirty years of work in higher education and professional adult training- education matters because people matter.

That belief has shaped a career spent across many parts of the world, working with universities, business schools and education organisations of different kinds, in roles spanning academic leadership, global engagement, institutional strategy and advisory practice. Across all of this work, one constant has remained: a deep commitment to the questions that matter most to institutions, and to the learners, educators, researchers, professionals and communities they serve.
I have come to understand that educational decisions are never abstract. Whether they are made with care, evidence and integrity, or shaped by habit, pressure or assumption, they have real consequences for learners, educators, researchers, professionals, families, institutions and communities.

Behind every strategy, partnership, framework and measure of performance are people whose futures are affected by the choices made. That is what gives this work its meaning, and it is the foundation of Helix4HE.

Helix4HE exists to offer thoughtful, independent advisory support to education organisations as they navigate the complex questions that increasingly define institutional life. Our approach is grounded in evidence, sector experience, independent judgement and careful attention to context.

Independence is central to our work. Helix4HE is not tied to any external body, prescribed methodology, geography or single model of institutional success. This matters because good advice should help institutions think clearly about their own purpose, context and direction. It should not push them towards a version of success defined elsewhere, particularly where local realities, histories, constraints and ambitions may not be fully understood.

This is especially important in areas where institutions are expected to evidence quality, demonstrate performance and communicate their value to the wider world. We recognise the importance of external frameworks and support institutions in engaging with them thoughtfully and strategically. At the same time, we understand that no single framework can fully capture the culture, complexity or purpose of an education organisation.

Our work therefore begins with context: the institution’s mission, strengths, ambitions and operating reality. From there, we help leaders interpret external measures of assessment with clarity and place them within a wider conversation about quality, reputation, institutional development and long-term value.

I am fortunate to bring together an advisory panel of highly experienced and trusted colleagues from different nationalities, professional backgrounds and areas of sector expertise, all rooted in academia or education. Their judgement, experience and breadth of perspective help ensure that Helix4HE’s thinking remains broad, internationally aware and attentive to the real conditions in which education organisations work.

At Helix4HE, we listen first, speak honestly and think carefully. We hold ourselves to the same standards of rigour, integrity and care that institutions are entitled to expect from those who advise them.

If you have arrived here looking for a thoughtful partner for the strategic, academic and developmental questions facing your institution or organisation, you are very welcome. I hope you will explore our thinking, our services and our approach, and that what you find here speaks to your ambitions, responsibilities and sense of purpose.
